October Boot Prints: Jenny Fjermestad
Each month, our Good Stewards receive a copy of Boot Prints, an internal company newsletter. In every issue, one employee is spotlighted. Our spotlighted employee for October is Jenny Fjermestad, our Chief Financial Officer. Learn more about her below!

Q. What does being a Good Steward mean to you?
A. For me, being a Good Steward means taking care of what has been entrusted to you and leaving it better than you found it. My role may look different from the work our teams do on projects, but I see my responsibility as being a Good Steward of GSC by protecting its resources, supporting its people, and helping build a strong and sustainable company. By doing that well, I can help give our employees the tools and support they need to be Good Stewards of our projects, our clients, and ultimately the people and communities those projects serve.
Q. What piece of advice would you give to your younger self?
A. Never give what someone isn’t willing to return.
Q. What is your favorite part of working at GSC?
A. My favorite part of working at GSC is the collaboration and problem-solving that happens across our teams. I enjoy looking at our processes, finding ways to make them more efficient, and working together to make sure things run as smoothly as possible. It is especially rewarding to see an idea or improvement come together and make someone’s job easier or help the team work better as a whole.

Q. What do you think makes our team culture unique?
A. I think what makes our team culture unique is that everyone truly has a voice and is encouraged to share their ideas and perspectives. It is rare to find a company where teams collaborate as well as ours do and where people genuinely care about the success of each other and the company as a whole. There is a willingness to step in, help where needed, and work together to find the best solution, regardless of whose “job” it may be.
Q. What are you most proud of in your career so far?
A. I am most proud of the hard work and dedication that have given me the opportunity to grow alongside GSC. I have been fortunate to be part of the company from the early beginning and to see firsthand how much it has grown and evolved over the years. There is something incredibly rewarding about looking back at where GSC started and knowing that I was able to play a meaningful role in helping build the company we have today. I am proud of the systems, processes, and foundation I have helped put in place to support GSC’s continued growth, but I am equally proud of the relationships we have built and the people who have become part of the company along the way.

Q. What’s the last song you listened to?
A. Rewind & Play – by Mia Lillian & BJ Guitars. This is an original song that Mia has been working on with our downstairs office neighbor John.
Q. What is one thing that you wish people knew about your job?
A. One thing I often say is that if you don’t really know what the Finance Department is doing, that usually means the job is being done well. There is an incredible amount of work, detail, and care that happens behind the scenes to keep the company running smoothly from payroll and benefits to financial planning, compliance, and countless day-to-day decisions.
Thank you for being a part of our team, Jenny!
